SOME OTHER WAYS IN WHICH YOU CAN HELP
SHARE WHAT YOU KNOW
SPEAK UP when you hear jokes that blame or demean battered
women, or which condone violence or sexual assaults against
women. A battered or raped woman might be listening!
GIVE OUT THE HAVEN HOUSE NUMBER - (323) 681-2626 - if
you meet a family in need of help. Haven House is there
to respond 24 hours, every day!
ARRANGE FOR A HAVEN HOUSE SPEAKER to inform your club,
class, organization, agency or place of employment about
the family problems of violence and alcoholism, and of
ways everyone can help.
SHARE WHO YOU ARE by volunteering to work with the Haven
House staff, to be on the Haven House Board of Directors,
or to join Haven House auxiliary, The Haven West on the
West side.
SHARE YOUR OWN EXPERIENCES as a battered woman or as a
batterer with the media, researchers and students who often
call Haven House seeking interviews.
SHARE WHAT YOU KNOW: Please help to put Haven House in
touch with any of the following among your acquaintances,
potential donors, "celebrities", people who can
help Haven House and directors of charitable founders (please
come review the foundation directory at the Haven House
offices to see if there's anyone you know!)
SHARE IN THE BIGGER PICTURE
Legislation and other actions by government agencies that
affect the lives of women and children are always in progress
at all levels. Letters to your County Supervisors, U.S.
Senators, Representatives, State Legislators, Mayors, District
Attorneys and Police Chiefs do make a difference! Find
out what services are available to battered women and their
children in your town. Tell your representatives and appointees
how you feel about these services (both outrages and strokes!)
WHAT IDEAS DO YOU HAVE FOR HELPING ABUSED WOMEN AND THEIR
CHILDREN?
HAVEN HOUSE IS HERE TO HELP YOU TO HELP THEM!
